On 4 December Polikarpe Khubulava’s 90th Anniversary evening was held at “Odishi” –Centre of Culture in Zugdidi with the support of the State Folklore Centre and Zugdidi Municipal administration, followed by the ceremony of opening the star of the renowned choir master and singer.
Georgian Minister of Culture and Monument Protection Mikheil Giorgadze delivered special “Patriarch of Art” award to Polikarpe Khubulava. Anzor Erkomaishvili – Artistic Director of ensemble Rustavi and Giorgi Donadze – Executive director of the State Folklore centre congratulated the celebrated choir master with the anniversary and talked about his invaluable contribution to the revival and preservation of Georgian (Megrelian) folk song; significance of tens of songs found and revived by him, as well as about Polikarpe Khubulava’s phenomenon as a singer.
Among the participants of the anniversary concert were folk ensembles from different parts of Georgia: Ialoni, Didgori, Sakhioba, Shalva chemo, chanters’ choir from Shemokmedi Church, Peritsvaleba, Odoia, Chela, Kutaisi State ensemble for Song and Dance….
In the beginning of 2015 the “Kartuli galoba” Foundation will publish Nino Kalandadze’s monograph “Polikarpe Khubulava”.
