On 6 September Georgian Apostolic Church commemorates Saint Karbelashvili brothers: Saint Martyrs Petre and Andria, St. Stepane the Confessor, Polievktos and Pilimon. The five brothers, five clergymen, greatly contributed to the rescue and revival of Georgian church chants and their transcription. The chanter brothers instilled their own Karbelashvilis’ (Kartli-Kakhetian) mode in Georgian church chant. The name of Saint Karbelashvili brothers is associated with the battle for justice, Georgia’s freedom and independence, with preservation of Georgian culture, identity and originality. State Folklore Centre of Georgia pays tribute to their memory and merit and congratulates Georgia with this glorious Day.
