National Folklore Festival in Mtskheta-Mtianeti

On 21 July   Dusheti House of Culture hosted Mtskheta-Mtianeti regional round of National Folklore Festival.

Mikheil Giorgadze – Minister of Culture and Monument Protection, Gocha Zeikidze – Deputy Governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Vazha Chokheli – Head of Dusheti city  Municipality, and Giorgi Donadze – Director of the State Folklore centre attended the closing round of the first part of the Festival.

Giorgi Donadze and Vazha Chokheli signed mutual memorandum, according to which a branch of the Folk Centre – Choir Master’s School will open in Dusheti.

Reminder: The Opening ceremony of National Folklore Festival of Georgia was held at Telavi Drama Theatre on 4 July and has already been held in Kakheti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, and Samtskhe-Javakheti.  In all regions the Festival boasted representation: church choirs, folk ensembles, individual performers, folk poets and choreographic ensembles, masters of fine and applied arts.

Traditionally, folk music, church chant and family ensembles were distinguished in diversity and multiplicity (about 120 ensembles and individual performers), oral folklore (about 60 folk poets), fine and applied arts (about 220 masters). Choreography was represented more modestly (14 family ensembles, one family duet and two children’s ensembles hors concours).

Mtsketa-Mtianeti was last region on the first, selection stage of National Folklore festival.

The rounds for Guria, Imereti, Achara , Shida and Kvemo Kartli will be renewed in September.

National Folklore Festival of Georgia is held by the State Folklore centre with the support of the Georgian Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection, Georgian Government, local city municipalities.
