Folk evenings - Folklore Center`s support towards the folk ensembles

Support and popularize traditional performers during the COVID pandemic -This has been a target of the project, “Folk evenings”, carried out by the Folklore Centre for recent years.
According to the director of the Folklore Centre, Giorgi Donadze, at first the concerts were held in the garden of the centre, but as pandemic deteriorated, the format was changed too and the concerts moved to the hall with live streaming concerts - “From the very beginning the plan was to invite 5 ensembles, but together with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia the project was prolonged and 22 ensembles could join it.
We`re happy for involving solo and family ensembles too. We`ll visit Samegrelo on December 21 to attend the final concert of the mentioned project.
The project launched on October 12. Ensembles performing the concerts represented songs and instruments from every region of Georgia. Not only solo, but also joint concerts were held. City songs were represented together with the folk ones. It`s also worth to mention the fact that the Folklore Centre could organize a live streaming from the regions too: Shilda - from Kakheti, also four local ensembles took part into the concert held at Ozurgeti Folklore Centre. Two additional ensembles will hold live concerts from Samegrelo on December 21.
“It`s second year the Folk evenings has been held and carrying out the projects like this is very important especially for Tbilisi ensembles by the time of pandemic, as several concerts planned in foreign countries are cancelled. We can proudly state that the project turned out to be successful and by means of live streaming it could consist wider audience than expected” - says the Folk Centre Concert Hall manager, Givi Abesadze.
The Folk evenings attracted quite enough foreign spectators. It`s worth to remember how active and devoted they were on every Monday and Thursday, their evaluations and dependence is especially important for the Folklore Centre.
