A Branch of the State Folklore Centre and Choir Master’s School in Poti

On 5 May a Branch of the State Folklore Centre and Choir Master’s School opened in Poti.

Giorgi Donadze– Executive Director of the Centre met Alexandre Topuria – Chairman of the city Assembly and Nikoloz Grigolia – Deputy Mayor of Poti. At the meeting they discussed mutual collaboration, duties and responsibilities of the sides.

The event dedicated to the opening of the branch, held at Archil Khorava Art School was attended by specialists of the State Folklore centre, local government officials and figures of culture.

Ensembles Makharia and Kolkhi bichebi (old and young generations) performed Georgian (Megrelian) folk songs at the concert.
On the initiative of Prime Minister and with the support of the Ministry of Culture the State Folklore Centre will successively open the Centre’s branches in regional municipal centers and self-governing cities throughout the country.
On the first stage schools of Georgian folk song, traditional chant and choreography are being opened, offering free education to all the interested.
The project aims to promote equal development and revival of all folklore branches, seek for and safeguard, revive and preserve unique examples of Georgian folk song and traditional chant.
Realization of this project is assisted by regional government officials.

Branches of the State Folklore centre and Choir Master’s School have already been opened in Khobi, Ozurgeti, Kaspi, Qvareli, Tetritsqaro, Borjomi and Gori.
